My daughter is a teaching assistant, today they were talking about the differences between indian and african elephant. One of the children asked if the two species can mate and if they did would they have medium sized ears. She was unable to answer the question can anyone help?
Can indian and african elephants mate and what would be the result.?
They have. The offspring typically do not survive long and are sickly.
Read about "Motty": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motty
.
Reply:Think you'd get an "IndyAfrophant" with enormous ears and every one called "Dumbo"
Reply:indie african lolzzzzzz
Reply:earthquakes
Reply:Why not? they're of the same family, Elephantidae. If Asians could have babies with Europeans - then it's possible. Both elephants are the same... they just live in different places and adapted differently so that there appearances and habits differ. Most people would probably not want the two elephants to mate - to keep the gene pole unchanged.
Reply:The offspring would be a lazy 7-11 employee
Reply:you get an Afridian elephant ,which is a working elephant with big ears ,some thing like a big Dumbo
Reply:An elephant that sets up a corner shop and then robs it?
yes they can be mated, they are close enough
like big cats, ligers and tions (really big and cute and would rip your ******* arm off)
Reply:This did happen a few years back,in Chester zoo I think, unfortunately the calf died young.I have not seen any pictures of it but it would probably have some characteristics of each parent, depending on which was the father and which the mother.
Compare...Tigons and Ligers.
Mules and Hinneys.
