Why do elephants flap its ears?

It helps cool them
Why do elephants flap its ears?
To keep cool. An elephant has no sweat glands. Blood vessels in the ears act as radiators.
Reply:to shoo bugs away, yes,

but to keep cool, too.
Reply:To keep the flies and bugs away from them
Reply:to keep flies and other kinds of bugs off of them.
Reply:African elephants also put their ears out when males are trying to intimidate other males.

Putting their ears all the way out makes their heads look bigger and is a threat to other elephants.
Reply:It's to cool down. The ears are a large surface area which lots of blood flows through, Flapping the ears cools the blood as it passes through the ears, then the cooled blood travels around the rest of the elephant cooling it down.
Reply:To cool themselves and to shoo the insects away. Wish I could flap my ears to cool off like that!
Reply:To say hello to other elephants... they can't do it with their paws.. sooo heavy!
